Items Needed
- iPod 12345CMN
- iPodWizard 1.2
- iTunes 7 with clean updater. (Explanation below)
Editing
iPodWizard v1.2 can edit your iPod directly to your iPod. There are alternative methods to upload to your iPod, but with the release of iTunes 7, and the changing layouts of the iPod firmware, iPodWizard staff highly recommend this method. If you wish to use another method, Appendix A contains another method, called Updater Editing. This is now highly complicated to use bundled with iTunes 7, but there is the benefit of saving your preferences.
Before you start, make sure that you have sufficient RAM to work with. This is around 128MB with Windows XP.
If you are using Windows Vista, please follow Appendix B - Windows Vista.
Method
- In Task Manager, end processes iTunesHelper.exe & iTunes.exe as these will interfere with your editing.
- Plug in your iPod. Wait for a while (about 10 seconds) to allow Windows to recognize the device.
- Load iPodWizard.exe. This is the main application.
- On the Edit Mode drop-down, select iPod. This will enable you to use the Direct Editing mode.
- After you select iPod, you will see that the button on the right-hand side of the drop down has changed to Load iPod Firmware. Press this button.
- You will see a progress bar. When the loading has completed and the progress bar disappears, it has obtained the necessary information. You are ready for editing!
If you come up with any problems, please refer to Troubleshooting.
Appendix
Appendix A - Firmware Editing
This method only works with older firmware that have been downloaded already before the release of iTunes 7, and is not compatible with newer firmware and/or iTunes 7. If you have iTunes 6, it is still possible to do Direct Editing.
- Update your iPodWizard.ini file. You can do this by searching the forums.
- Open up iPodWizard.exe, the main application. It should look like this, particularly at the top of the program:
- Click on 'Open Updater', and navigate to the iPod Updater that you wish to edit (downloaded and installed previously). Its install directory defaults to:
[Windows Drive]:\Program Files\iPod\iPod Updater YYYY-MM-DD\
- Choose your iPod model. Unless you are performing specific editing work, it's best to ignore the numbers.
- Hit 'Load'. It will load all the necessary information. After the progress bar has completed, you are ready to edit.
Appendix B - Windows Vista
You will not be able to perform editing features without giving the program administrator features. You can do this by:
- Right-click the iPodWizard.exe app.
- Select Run as Administrator.
- Follow the Direct Editing method.
