According to a new report, revenue from gaming on iOS and Android devices is at three times the size of revenue on dedicated portable gaming consoles. This shows that the trend that’s seen in portable gaming with devices such as Apple’s iPhone continues.

In the first quarter of 2013, revenues for iOS gaming rose significantly while revenues for dedicated portable consoles made by Nintendo and Sony dropped due to seasonal effects. The information was discovered in a recently published study by IDC and App Annie. Apple’s iOS led in overall gaming revenue generation for the quarter as they outpaced Google’s Android, as it already does in terms of overall revenue. Google’s Play Store continued to see its revenues grow and it is currently expected that Google Play will move ahead with gaming-optimized handhelds in terms of revenue generation sometime in the second quarter.

The published study found that gaming still forms the foundation for both app stores. Games accounted for roughly 40% of all downloads in both the App Store and in Google Play, up slightly from last quarter. The report has games making up roughly 70% of iOS App Store spending and more than 80% of Google Play spending as well. The findings put relief in the growing importance of mobile devices in the gaming segment, which is a trend that has the traditional gaming companies scrambling to adjust. The emergence of Apple’s iPhone on the gaming scene sparked an exodus of casual gamers from the dedicated portable console market, as those consumers found that one device could handle both their gaming and communication needs.

Sony and Nintendo have been looking to retool operations in response to the industry trends. Sony recently cut the price of its PlayStation Vita portable console in the hopes that doing so would attract more buyers. The electronics giant also courted developers for the PS Vita by offering free developer tools. Nintendo seems to have fared better in the portable segment after cutting the price on its 3DS console. The shift toward devices like Apple’s iPad has meant trouble for Nintendo’s new Wii U console. In response, the company has been trying to court developers in hopes that they will bring their best-selling smartphone games to the touch-capable Wii U.

The Facebook-connected hookup app named “Bang with Friends” was recently pulled from Apple’s App Store, with the removal coming just a little over a week following the app’s debut. For those of you who were unfamiliar with it, Bang with Friends, is a Facebook integrated app that lets users' hookup with friends on the social network. It originally hit the App Store last week but it seems Apple found an issue with the app, leading to its recent takedown.

Furthermore, the Bang with Friends mobile webpage is also down with a “Be Right Back” message, though it is unclear whether the two issues are related or not. According to the app cofounder, Colin Hodge, Apple hasn’t given any official response as to why the app was removed.

Although the app’s title may be somewhat crude, the service behind it is actually an anonymous matchmaking service that is limited to a Facebook user’s friends list. To use the app, a Facebook account holder signs up with the service and selects friends they wouldn’t mind “hooking up” with. If that friend also happens to be a member of BWF and has selected the same person as a potential match, emails are sent to each user notifying them a match has been made. The concept behind the whole app and its service is that it is anonymous, meaning users will not be alerted when a friends wants to “hookup” unless they have also shown interest.

Apple hasn’t responded to any requests regarding the pulling of the app but the company has taken a stricter stance on apps that contain questionable content. An example of this was seen with Twitter-owned Vine, which was stripped of its App Store’s Editors’ Choice designation after the app’s curators accidentally featured a snippet that contained inappropriate content.

We’ll have to wait and see Apple’s reasoning and the app developer’s response.

Making matters worse for Apple is the fact that the Cupertino, California-based tech giant is still nowhere close to being ready to launch iRadio. As you may have guessed in light of the flurry of Google-related headlines on MMi today and elsewhere in the tech news space, Google's sixth annual developers conference kicked off today in San Francisco.

During the opening festivities of Google I/O, Sundar Pichai, senior vice president of Chrome and Apps at Google, dropped an Android-related bombshell: more than 900 million Android devices have now been activated. Not bad considering that this number stood at 400 million just one year ago, and 100 million the year before that.

“People are adopting these devices at an amazing pace,” Pichai revealed, reminding everyone that Android is still the No. 1 operating system for smartphones in the world. “When you look at all of these computing devices, it’s a multi-screen world … they have sensors, they can look, they can feel.”
Incredibly, Google also confirmed today that 48 billion Android apps have now been downloaded. As Apple continues its high-profile countdown to 50 billion app downloads, it likely won't be longbefore Android catches and surpasses Apple's once dominant app download achievements.

The iPhone’s encryption is apparently secure enough that even law enforcement agencies are waiting in line to have Apple “crack” the lock and provide data to be used as evidence. According to a report by the folks at CNET, Apple has the ability to decrypt seized iPhones and has created a waiting list to handle the incoming requests.

At one point last summer, the wait was over seven weeks long and one ATF agent reported that it took his request four months to be processed. The ATF had tried to decrypt the iPhone 4S of a Kentucky man who was accused of distributing drugs and became so frustrated that it contacted Apple for assistance, which is where the wait started.

Those of you who are at all concerned about how secure your personal information is on an iOS device should be relieved at the fact that devices can’t be cracked by federal agents. No one is entirely sure how Apple can decrypt the information for the police. Whether there is a backdoor that only Apple knows about, has custom hardware for decryption of iOS devices, or just has better-trained cryptologists.

There are products that are supposed to help crack codes, such as Elcomsoft’s iOS Forensic Toolkit, which claims to crack a four-digit iOS 4 or iOS 5 passcode in less than 40 minutes. It’s when someone uses a PIN or password with more characters that the decryption time takes a much longer time. The post cites Simson Garfinkel from the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School, who estimates that cracking a 10-digit PIN could take as long as 25 years using common brute-force methods.

What this really means for the average law-abiding citizen is that a longer passphrase or PIN can keep your iOS data protected. For those engaged in illegal activities, it should be known that Apple knows how to free your data to law enforcement and will do just that.

Morgan Stanley analyst said this week that Apple will likely build more than one new iPhone model this summer.

In recent weeks, chatter started everywhere from the Asian supply chain to the high-rise offices of Wall Street tech analysts points to the launch of multiple iPhone models in June or July.

This morning, Morgan Stanley's Katy Huberty shared some insight that she gained during her recent trip to China.

-After a slow start, iPhone 5 is now on track to meet carrier volume expectations.
-iPhone 4 price cuts could stimulate incremental demand near-term.
-Carriers see the opportunity for Apple to expand market coverage with 5-inch and lower-priced iPhones over time.
-TD-LTE licenses, and related phone launches, are expected by year-end.

Fitbit recently released its Flex fitness tracker, a wristband device that combines technology from the company’s other offerings with Bluetooth 4.0 to create a product meant to be worn 24 hours a day. The company seems to be building on the success of its earlier fitness trackers; Fitbit is entering an already hotly-contested space with Flex, going up against the likes of Nike’s FuelBand and Jawbone’s Up.

Fitbit’s new $100 wristband is actually a tracking module, with built-in accelerometer, Bluetooth 4.0 and near-field communications, all packed into a silicon wristband. The band can be purchased separately or in separate or in packs of three, with colors ranging from black to tangerine. Much like the firm’s ONE and ZIP, Flex counts a user’s number of steps, distance traveled, calories burned and minutes of activity. Also carried over from the ONE is a sleep quality tracker, which promises to take stats of how well a user slept during the night.

The interaction with the hardware seems to be quite minimal, with only five white LEDs used as an interface to let users know when they reached their goals for the day. One of the Flex’s main features is claimed real-time tracking via Bluetooth 4.0, which automatically syncs with PCs, Macs, the iPhone 4S and 5, third-generation iPad, iPad mini and iPod Touch. NFC seems to be enabled with Android devices, which allows owners to open the Fitbit app by tapping the Flex and handset together. Battery life is said to be around five to seven days with early reviews from sites such as CNET and TechCrunch seem to back up those claims.

The tracking software is the same feature-rich app that Fitbit users are accustomed to, with goals, social connectivity, trends and support for third-party apps like My Fitness Pal and Run Keeper.

You can find a video introducing Fitbit Flex below:

Gates: Consumers are "Frustrated" with the iPad

Bill Gates recently argued that users are frustrated with the iPad because the Apple tablet lacks some of the functionality found in traditional PCs. His remarks come from an appearance on CNBC with Warren Buffett where Gates was asked about reports that tablets would overtake PCs as well as the growth of the cloud. Gates argued that Windows 8 “is revolutionary in that it takes the benefits of the tablet and benefits of the PC” and supports both.

Those who purchase a Surface Pro or Surface RT, have the “portability of the tablet, but the richness in terms of the keyboard [and] Microsoft Office,” according to Gates. Going forward, it’s going to be “harder and harder to distinguish” between PCs and tablets as hardware manufacturers embrace form factors like convertible laptops or detachable keyboards like Microsoft offers for the Surface. He continued by saying the following:

With Windows 8, Microsoft is trying to gain share in what has been dominated by the iPad-type device. But a lot of those users are frustrated; they can't type, they can't create documents, they don't have Office there.
There have long been rumors about Office for iOS but neither Microsoft nor Apple has made any announcements. With Windows 8 and gadgets like the Surface, Microsoft is providing users “with the benefits they’ve seen that they have made [PCs] a big category, but without giving up what they expect in a PC.” That philosophy has not yet translated into sales but according to recent stats from IDC, Microsoft shipped 900,000 Surface tablets during the first quarter, whereas Apple shipped 19.5 million iPads. Of those 900,000 IDC said that many were the more full-featured Surface Pro, which started shipping to the U.S. and Canada in February.

Microsoft started expanding Surface availability around the globe last month.

According to a new report, although Apple is allegedly reassigning personnel to expedite development of iOS 7, the next-generation mobile operating system for the iPhone and iPad will still meet the company’s internal deadlines. The details are coming from anonymous sources who spoke with John Paczkowski from All Things D. The Cupertino California company’s current efforts to finish iOS 7 are “not as much of a fire drill” according to one source, which added that “It will ship on time.”

Based on what Paczkowski was told, iOS 7 promises to be a “pretty big update” for Apple’s mobile operating system. Apple is said to be showing off iOS 7 at this year’s Worldwide Developers Conference, something the company has publicly confirmed. The recent report indicated the following:

Quote:Evidently the spartan, elegant aesthetic that (head designer Jony) Ive has developed around Apple's hardware is now being brought to bear on its software, as well.

According to internal Apple documentation, the original iPhone which first debuted in 2007 will be entering an “obsolete” status, with a few exceptions. The official switch will happen on June 11, 2013 when the iPhone along with several other Macs and Xserve models officially being classified as vintage and obsolete products. For those of you interested, Apple’s support site defines vintage products as:

Quote:…those that were discontinued more than five and less than seven years ago. Apple has discontinued hardware service for vintage products with the following exception:

-Products purchased in the state of California, United States, as required by statute.
-Owners of vintage Macintosh products may obtain service and parts from Apple service providers within the state of California, United States.

J.D. Power and Associates released its most recent study on customer satisfaction in the tablet segment this week, with Apple’s iPad taking the top prize for the second time in a row. Volume 1 of the J.D. Power and Associates 2013 U.S. Table Satisfaction Study was released this week, showing Apple at the top of the pile both in overall ranking and significantly outpacing competitors in terms of overall quality. The iPad scored 836 on a 1,000-point scale of owner satisfaction and an industry-best five out of five on the J.D. Power Circle Ratings for Consumers, rating it “among the best” for tablets.

Close behind Apple in terms of customer satisfaction was Amazon, which scored 829 on the Overall Tablet Index Rankings. Both manufacturers were above the industry average of 828. Samsung, Asus, and Acer rounded out the top five manufacturers' scores of 822, 818, and 784 respectively. The study looked at tablet owners who have owned their tablet for one year or less with five key factors being used to evaluate satisfaction. Performance was the most important followed by ease of operation, styling and design, features and cost.

The release marks the second time in a row that Apple’s iPad has taken the top spot according to J.D. Power. The same study issues last September found Apple and Amazon in the same positions although both had slightly higher scores.

Other notable things to point out include facts about the study which also looked at tablet owner behavior. Interesting facts included the fact that 5 % of tablet owners were found sharing their device with at least one other person. The sharing appears to be tied to greater overall satisfaction too as users that shared their tablets with four or more people reported satisfaction 28 points higher than users that didn’t share their devices. The tablet also appears to be a better way of browsing the Internet as tablet owners who have smartphones reported spending 36% more time web browsing on tablets than on their smartphones.

Auxo, the popular app switcher-enhancing jailbreak tweak by iOS development team A³tweaks, is expected to become available for the iPad next month. Auxo is unique for having an eye-candy interface that includes all of the stock features of the App Switcher, as well as others, like toggles, swipe gestures, a brightness slider, and the ability to kill all applications at once. It's also great how Auxo uses screenshots of the applications you have open and overlays the icon over them.

Auxo for the iPad is being teased yet again by the developers, as you can see above. The last teaser showed the application-switching interface, while this new teaser appears to focus on the music controls interface of Auxo for the iPad. In other words – it's coming along nicely!

It's obvious that the developers are putting a lot of time into optimizing everything to take full advantage of the iPad's larger display. All of the application screenshot previews in Auxo for iPad are iPad-shaped, just like the iPhone 5 application screenshots are actually taller than the iPhone 4/4S screenshots and resemble the display difference, which is a nice little feature.

We are hoping to see a preview of the toggle interface of Auxo for the iPad before its release, which will most likely allow users to have more than four toggles per row like the iPhone version does to allow for maximum display usage on the iPad. As of right now, Auxo for the iPad is still in the works, and it should be out next month.

Good evening, I've seen this forum and like to ask a question for those who has the same problem i have.
My nephiew got a Ipod 4 with fw 5.1.1 (jb) and playing with other kids someone put the 4 digits lock. They also try to unlock several times, so ipod right now says just to connect to itunes to unlock (that says to unlock it before connect.. X( ).
Questions are the following:
There's a way to bring it to a normal state?
There's a way to unlock it without restoring?
There's a way to access files to store the kid's games records?
There's a way to restore it and avoid the 6.1.3 update?

I've tried to:
Recover with WonderShare for Mac (suggested, a great app, recovered all photos, notes and contacts!);
Jailbreak again (success, but nothing changed);
Tried with iFunBox and all the main software of accessing files, but they not see the iPod.
So..if someone has something for me..here i am!
I can also share my experience with Apple devices.
Hope to hear soon about You, greetings!

For the quarter ended March 31, 2013, AT&T's consolidated revenues totaled $31.4 billion, down 1.5 percent versus the year-earlier quarter and up 0.9 percent when excluding revenues from the divested Advertising Solutions business unit.
