Final cracking of 6g-iGrizzard rebirth
k, iGrizzard was shut down by mods a bit ago for-'advertising crap'. Im not sure who it was. I don't give a damn. Now, there aren't enough people for us to think smart and find a loophole. We need to use brute force. We need to use iGrizzard. For those of you too young to remember, this is how iGrizzard worked:
Somewhat like foldings@home. Never heard of it? Shame on you. Basically, we run this program in the background and it will crack the 6g. One computer cannot do it fast enough. We need a supercomputer and, I don't have one lying around so, we create a network of ordinary computers, bound together by the internet, combining processing power and creating a supercomputer. Cracking encryption-its a 128-bit encryption, think of it like a 128 character password. We will try A, then B, etc. Well, thats way oversimplifid but, that doesn't matter. You're probably thinking that we won't get anybody to join up but, there are so may people who want to help. Take the 120,000+ members of IPW. say, 10,000 will want to help/are active. Each has access to 2 computers, thats loads of processing there. I for one can get us hooked up to a possible 700 computers if future plays out well (will know in a month). Anyway, we need some people tostart coding. Especially cscomputing, you are probably the best coder I know of in IPW (Kingstone doesnt count). Who was behind the original iGrizzard? Cant remember. Well, lets get it going. Im new to this too (a bit) but am a quick learner and, im learning c++ (keyword=learning) Any links for people less experienced to help out would be good. Ill set us up a homepage soon (Thursday probs). Anyway, lets get organised. Oh and, mods, please don't delete this. This whole message has been typed from my ds (long story) and has taken about an hour. Come on, we can do this.

project name:iSack (six crossed with crack)

Any will do. We just need to code it. If U can help at all, it's good... even load it into your work computers before closing down and, say you load in 1000 computers, thats good. Basically, anyone that will help is good. You won't need a 6G, it doesn't make any difference. So, anyone who can help us out with the coding (I believe iGrizzard had a little bit of stuff coded for it originally).

MMT or other mods, your approval please.

Yeah, ps3 linux might be able to run this, probs some PSPs (possibly) and even better (since most people interested would have one) iPhone/iTouches may be able to run it (although they would be slow). As I said, I may be able to get hold of a server and about 700 coms for us (my friend works helps out IT guys at a school)

I didn't read anything in here yet. Tell me what you want to do as short as possible, and I will approve it or I won't.

Thank you.

He wants to create a distributed processing system (a la SETI@home) for generating the encryption key for the 6th Gen iPod firmware. While this is a prime example of where distributed processing is extremely useful (perfectly parallel, only need one central server to coordinate and that's it) I can see 3 problems with this:

How do we know when we've decrypted the firmware with a minimum of false positives?
How do we know the firmware is encrypted and not simply compressed?
If it is encrypted, how do we know which encryption method Apple used?

The last one is a big one, but can be handled by testing each possible key for each possible encryption method. However, this exponentially increases the amount of work we need to do (numKeys ^ numAlgorithms).
