2nd+3rd Generation Encryption Thread
There seems to have been numerous reports of the 2nd and 3rd Generation Nano being un-encyrpted.

If you have proof or a strong reason to believe that these rumors are true, you are to post in this thread, stating where you got the information, and if its valid.

Thanks.

Unencrypting the 2nd-3rd generation nanos isn't exactly feasible, by any methods that people have tried. Bruteforcing takes too long, with such a long key. Firmware exploits aren't any good, because the decryption either resides in the flash bootloader or the on-board flash on the processor. The only real way to do this is to dump the flash chip (which may not be that hard) to see if it happens there. If so, we're good. If not, and the flash is encrypted, it's going to be harder. The on-board flash on the processor will need to be dumped, which could be the answer. If not, it's going to be even harder. The new processor may have custom hardware that decrypts on the fly, which will need to be probed and reverse engineered to see how it works.

Not easy. Any reports are most likely false, so don't get your hopes up.

It's not almost decrypted. Decryption isn't going to happen without extensive hardware probing.

It's not close to being decrypted...
Only thing that happened with the 2G is that you can use it with Linux-OS computers/other programs to add music other than iTunes.

most people wont care.

So SK8er_munkie... If you say that you have done all this research, where did you find that they are 4-7% finished with it.

Listen, with this decryption stuff, you either have a key that does works, or does not work. So there is no 5% or 10% of 42%. It's either 0% or 100%. The amount of firmware decrypted right now is 0%. Period. End of story.
