It doesn't go into the Rockbox firmware because you haven't put it on yet.

Quote:
You should now see a light blue screen with some tiny writing - this is the Rockbox bootloader. Because you haven't yet installed Rockbox itself, the bootloader will fail to start Rockbox and should then default to start the original Apple firmware. If this happens, then all has gone well.
If you read the final instructions properly, it will ask you to:

Now we must go through the process of getting the actual Rockbox firmware onto the iPod (we have only done the bootloader so far!).

Download the latest Rockbox build from http://www.rockbox.org/daily.shtml
Make sure you choose the correct build for your iPod!!!
Unzip the zip file, keeping the exact folder name of ".rockbox".

The ".rockbox" must be moved to the root (or top-level) of your iPod, for example F:\ (where F is the drive).

Disconnect and Enjoy!!!
The .rockbox folder is the Rockbox firmware. The 'test it' step is testing the bootloader.

After you put on the .rockbox firmware, when you reboot your iPod Rockbox will boot. There are no links to it in the Apple firmware; Rockbox doesn't touch it.

Kreator666,

Great work on this installer. It worked like a charm for me. I found that modding the apple firmware deletes the Rockbox bootloader. But it's easy enough to run your installer again to re-store the bootloader.

I'm having trouble... I downloaded the v4, and ran the installer, the non-linux one... I finished, I downloaded th latest rockbox thing, copied the rockbox folder to my ipod and the rockbox.ipod file too... I reboot and hold rewind, and it takes me back again to the apple firmware... what did I do wrong?

Yes, the bootloader unfortunately gets wiped when the iPod's firmware is updated.
To get around this, use iPod Wizard's (1.2) direct edit mode (if that is what you are updating the firmware for).

Thanks.
