I think iTunes 7.01 fix that problem.
After you click update and it kicks off your ipod, unplug the cable and reconnect your ipod and it will continute the restore/update process.

Hi, I have a problem with my iPod updaters. Whenever i open the updaters (with iPod nano plugged in or not) they say "Invalid iPod Service Version." What does this mean. I have the 2006-03-23, 2005-11-17, and the 2005-03-23 updaters. I have iTunes 6.0.
Thanks.

No, the '2005-01-11' is the date that the Updater was released.
To find which firmware version it contains, do a bit of Google searching or ask somebody who has v1.1.1 what updater they use.

hi i've got a quick question,

i've semi bricked my ipod, i had a bright apple logo for awhile and some how managed to get it into disk mode, so i can save all my music, but, i've tried running these updates to sort out the ipod its self from being stuck on the apple logo. and when i run the latest one, it says i need to update my ipod with the news itunes. now i cant update my ipod as itunes doesnt regonize it, i've tried running the three previous 2006 updates and none of them will let me update. how can i fix this problem i really dont want to send my ipod back, and wait ages, i've only had it 10 days. my ipods the 5th gen one if that helps.

any infomation or help would be awesome.

Well you could "restore". This will get rid of all of your data, but it will give you a clean slate and it shouldn't care if you use an older updater. iTunes should see an iPod in disk mode, though.

Have you searched the forums? Questions like yours have been asked before.

i've been all over the forums searched everywhere googled been looking for the last 3 hours, cant seem to find what i'm looking for, though i'm not even sure where to start.

itunes just crashes when i loads it up now, i installed the latest version and it just loads the liesence screen and crashes, the updater tells me i need to load the new itunes. the other updaters tell me "invalid ipod service version". cant figure out what to do, at the moment i'll try a restore anything just cant even get that far. its weird because, ephpod, that program i use to copy my music to my pc, see the ipod fine and is copying music happily. just realised that its not a 5g, its the 5.5g the 80gb one.

Oh... you will not be able to use an older firmware. You will have to use an updater containing the firmware for the 5.5G ipod. I think you do have to update through iTunes. Try uninstalling the older updaters since they don't have the right firmware for your iPod anyway. Uninstall iTunes and re-install it. See if it will see your device after doing that. If you can get into disk mode and your OS can see the iPod then iTunes should be able to find it. You might also try rebooting your computer with the iPod attached.

There are also other options like re-formatting the iPod. This will really give it a blank slate and should allow you to do a restore on it. I did this to my 5g once.
