tech question: why 4 bits in grayscale mode?
hey!
i have a little technical question, not that i'm having problems or something, but i was wondering: why are the grayscale pics (for monochrome ipods) converted to a FOUR BIT bitmap? 4 bits are 2^4=16 possible colors (editing the palette in irfanview actually shows 16 squares) but the ipod can only use 4=2^2? therefore a 2 bit image would be enough. and when creating the 4 bit images always only the first 4 indexes of the palette are used, the rest are black. so what are they there for? just wondering ![]() |
