[5G, 5.5G] iPod "Neue" Classic (UPDATE:6 Sept 08)

Based on "Perfect Classic" V2 hack by Exel, Billybojilly and team.
Mirrored AA concept and implementation by the legendary kpkpkpkp.

2.9 Changes

CLASSIC-STYLE ALBUMS MENU
(idea and initial implementation by kris1.2.3 aka iReturn)
- large selector bar, generic 'albums' icon to the left (based on an icon by Stevipod) and text shifted upwards for 'second line' (the second line 'artist' text is currently not possible to implement.)

CLASSIC-STYLE VIDEO NOW PLAYING
- blue full-colour volume/progress/brightness bars added to video now playing. (iHackr's Idea)
(video now playing now uses identical volume/progress bars as music) (This was enabled via the use of firestrke31's excellent iPNG program.)


NOW PLAYING CHANGES

- Larger Helvetica Neue Font for Song Title text (by iHackr)
- New Now Playing background for songs without album art (based on contributions from Stevipod and iHackr)
- swapped position of repeat/shuffle icons on Now Playing (to match 6G Classic)
- adjusted song title position on Now Playing
- made time elapsed/time remaining text smaller (changed 'time elapsed' to use font type 24175...hope there's no conflicts.)
- tweaked "repeat 1" icon
- tweaked battery indicator position
- Fixed podcast/audiobook Now Playing screen (Now with reflected AA and identical layout to Music NP.)
- Other small tweaks to positioning of items on NP screens.


MISC
----
- Initial Movies Menu now Half-screen.
- added a few more characters to "Helvetica Neue 14" font (titlebar/album/artist)


KNOWN ISSUES/PROBLEMS (TODO LIST)
---------------------------------
- I had to poach an image from Klondike to get the white selector arrow on the albums menu to work
- People have reported no hiscore showing on Brick and Parachute games.
- some menus still 50/50 when they should be full width.
- clocks on clocks menu are still broken
- Time in titlebar is still broken (I've tried to get it working without success)
- No Coverflow (don't hold your breath for this one guys, I'd say it was impossible but people said that about reflected album art. Coverflow on the 5/5.5g is highly unlikely though)
- No Medium Album Art for Now Playing (iTunes outputs the AA at two fixed sizes and the ipod displays these 'as is' without resizing. so 'medium AA' can't be done)
- Video now playing layout needs adjusting to better resemble the Classic layout (I don't know the resources for this)
- Contacts Layout Needs adjusting
- Search box (5.5G) is grey and should be black. It's not an image. It probably works on the same principle as the Selector Bar colours but I haven't found it in the firmware yet.
- BMPs for Helvetica Neue font have been finalised in the firmware, all the characters are there but the metrics are not so anyone who needs the extra characters will have to finish it themselves. BMP could also do with a clean up in places.
- Search/Games/Movies menus should look like the new album menu. I'm not really sure I like the look/functionality of it over the default 5G menu.

This will be the last update for a while as I won't have enough time to work on it.

FEATURES
- NEW: Helvetica Neue Font (Real iPod Classic 6G font)
- NEW: Fully Functional Calendar/Time on main menu
- NEW: Choice of Mini-NP available (My iCal theme is installed by default. iHackr's mod is availble in the download)

- Other minor stuff that I've forgotten about but should have written down.

BUGFIXES
- NEW: Search function on 5.5G is now fully fixed, also adjusted layout/font references (SEARCH NO LONGER CRASHES IPOD)
- NEW: 5G owners were having problems with the titlebar text being cut off in various screens. This is now fixed.
- Includes all other bugfixes from previous versions

KNOWN ISSUES
- Helvetica Neue was added manually. I started off with a BMP of the font characters and edited each position by hand in IPW, I then wrote this to the iPod and using the iPod as a reference went back and edited the position/width of each character, rewrote to iPod and so on... As this is a long and tedious process I didn't have the time/patience to do every single character of the font just the upper/lower case letters, numbers and common symbols...

update:08 Sep 08 - Lassard has done some work on the helvetica neue font (including all accented characters) and made them available for download in his post here - http://www.ipodwizard.net/showpost.p...&postcount=118 - Please contact him with any compliements/issues with the font. (thanks lassard)

- (5.5G only) The search results screen covers the titlebar. Any attempt I made to move this resulted in the iPod crashing after scrolling past the first screen of results. I decided to sacrifice form over function in this case.

- Some of the menus are still half screen when they should be fullscreen. As I don't have a real Classic myself I'm not sure which menus need to be fixed. Please point them out in a reply.

I've done some research and this is how the classic looks like (please see attachment).

And dang, this might be impossible, if the artwork in the miniNP doesn't fit the screen it moves just like how a very long song title moves in the now playing display. Also, if the song doesn't have an artwork, iPod classic displays a default artwork (a gray image), I just can't find a picture for that.
