Lightbulb iPod Touch Price Drop

At the annual Apple Conference this September, Apple announced a large price drop in the iPod Touch. The prices have dropped to $199 US for an 8GB model, $299 for a 32GB, and $399 for a 64GB. So for all the people considering a new iPod, the iPod Touch looks awfully attractive
Check Apple.com for more information. To accompany this, the 3.1 Firmware has just been released, showcasing major bug fixes, improved Genius, and much more.

i am going to try to get a 32 GB one... cant wait! its been almost a year since ive been ipodless I want to get one before I start school because I have a 40 min commute and my radio sucks (and i dont really like anything on the radio...) Why didnt they put a camera on it though? was it because apple wants to keep that as a marketing feature for the iPhone?

No.

Here is what Steve said:

“Originally, we weren’t exactly sure how to market the Touch. Was it an iPhone without the phone? Was it a pocket computer? What happened was, what customers told us was, they started to see it as a game machine,” he said. “We started to market it that way, and it just took off. And now what we really see is it’s the lowest-cost way to the App Store, and that’s the big draw. So what we were focused on is just reducing the price to $199. We don’t need to add new stuff. We need to get the price down where everyone can afford it.”

Self explaining and a good reason as well. Not good enough though.

Not everyone wants an iPhone. The prices didn't even change, its the same prices for everything except the 8gb.

Exactly, plus AT&T subsidizes the iPhone so there will be less start-up cost for the new AT&T customer.

Well, it looks like Apple has answered my prayers. 64GB. I still might mess with that 32GB, but if I go 32GB, I have to give the Zune HD a look.

@ the Touch as a "gaming machine". Please. Jobs, create the good stuff and STHU.
