Apple to Pull Native Youtube App from iOS 6 - audaazz - 08-06-2012 05:48 PM ![]() Apple's license for Google's Youtube app has expired Today, Apple released a new version of the iOS 6 beta, interestingly, there was no sign of the native Youtube application which has been pre-installed on the company's mobile devices since 2007, when the first iPhone was released. Apple has made it evident in a statement today that its Youtube license, which was used to build the app, has since expired, this means that the app will not be included in the final version of iOS 6, which is expected to become available for the public this fall. ![]() No sign of the Youtube app on the new iOS 6 beta Apple also mentioned in their statement that customers can use Youtube in the Safari browser, and that Google is currently developing its own Youtube app which we be available through the app store in the near future. A Google spokesman said in a statement, without elaborating: "We are working with Apple to ensure we have the best possible YouTube experience for iOS users." Such events may seem like just another blow to the already rocky relationship between Apple and Google, however, the arrangement is seen as a win by many. Now, Google will be able to have full control of their app which hasn't seen an update in quite some time. Furthermore, Apple is now able to rid their iOS of a native app which served to support one of its largest competitors. RE: Apple to Pull Native Youtube App from iOS 6 - Zim - 08-07-2012 11:21 AM Honestly I am happy it is going a way, It was a waste of space and I saw no need for the app, and I hated being switched to the youtube app every time I wanted to play a video. |
